Happy 250th Birthday, America!
Happy 4th Of July From The Koutz Farm Family 🇺🇸
From all of us at Koutz Farm, we want to wish you and your family a happy, safe, and memorable Independence Day as we celebrate America’s 250th year! 🇺🇸
There’s something special about life in the country this time of year — backyard cookouts, kids running barefoot through the grass, porch lights glowing after sunset, garden harvests on the kitchen counter, and fireworks lighting up wide open Texas skies. Homesteading reminds us to slow down and appreciate the simple things: hard work, family traditions, faith, freedom, and the kind of community where neighbors still look out for one another.
As you celebrate this weekend, here are a few friendly reminders to help keep your family, animals, property, and community safe:
- Please be mindful of where fireworks are being used. Stay well away from homes, barns, workshops, hay storage, vehicles, fences, and other structures whenever possible.
- Dry grass and brush can ignite quickly during the Texas summer heat. Avoid lighting fireworks near pastures, fields, wooded areas, feed storage, or anything flammable.
- Keep a water hose, buckets of water, or fire extinguisher nearby before lighting fireworks or starting outdoor fires and grills. Having a plan in place ahead of time can prevent small accidents from becoming dangerous situations.
- Never leave fireworks unattended around children or animals, and always supervise lighting and cleanup carefully.
- Farm animals and pets can become extremely stressed during fireworks. Horses, cattle, goats, chickens, dogs, and other animals may panic or injure themselves if startled. If possible, secure animals in safe areas before dark and provide calming background noise to help reduce anxiety.
- Make sure pets have updated ID tags or microchip information. Many animals go missing during holiday celebrations due to fear from loud noises.
- Be mindful of local burn bans, drought conditions, and changing wind patterns before using fireworks, burn pits, smokers, or outdoor cooking equipment.
- If you’re spending time outdoors, stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat, and keep an eye on elderly family members, children, and animals during the extreme Texas temperatures.
- Please don’t drink and drive or operate ATVs, tractors, side-by-sides, or farm equipment under the influence. Plan ahead so everyone makes it home safely.
- And one reminder that matters deeply in rural communities — not everyone experiences fireworks the same way. Some veterans, first responders, and others living with PTSD may find loud explosions overwhelming or triggering. A little kindness and consideration for neighbors can go a long way.
Whether you’re gathered around a backyard BBQ, sitting under the stars on the porch, working animals at sunset, watching fireworks over the pasture, or simply enjoying time with family at home, we hope your weekend is filled with laughter, gratitude, good food, and memories that last for years to come.
One last request – please pray for the families of Texas as they mourn the 1 year anniversary of the devasting floods that took so many loved ones away. Grief is always hard, but I think having the year anniversary on such a tremendous holiday hits very deeply. They need our continued prayers.
Blessings to you and yours and we wish you a happy 4th of July from our family at Koutz Farm! Stay safe, celebrate responsibly, and enjoy the beauty of this great country we call home. 🇺🇸
