Love keeps us going every day. Our love of God and His love of us is our saving grace. Our love of animals, nature, and country living is what drives us to work hard to keep what we have been blessed with. Our love of each other is what gets us through hard times and what brings us joy in the good times. Love is what keeps us pushing to get up when we don’t feel like it, when health issues take their toll, and we struggle, or we are just too exhausted to go on. Without love, we wouldn’t have a reason to do anything and the light at the end of our tunnel would have burned out long ago. It is hope that makes us take that one extra step, but it is love that gives us the strength to take that step. To begin this Bible Study, simply read the sections below: “Who”, “What”, “When”, “Where”, "Why", “How”, and “The Study Notes”. Use your own Bible as a reference and make sure to keep a journal handy for taking notes as the Lord guides you through your spiritual studies. When you are done, read the Prayer section (and pray along with us). Make sure to review the Action section and use our action points or make up your own actions. Make sure to check out our Questions & Answers section and if you want to dive deeper into your study invest some time in our References section, as well. This is how our Bible Study Format will be in this and all future Bible Study Posts. Let's get started...  

Welcome to Day 9 of the Koutz Farm Bible Study for “The Daniel Plan“. Before we jump in, I want to note that I am in a training program in the evenings (unrelated to this Bible Study) and because of this I will be doing the Bible Study notes every other night instead of every night for a short period of time. The reading in the Daniel Plan goes along with what I’m learning in the training (regarding faith, fitness, focus, and friends sections of the plan) – the other training I’m doing focuses a lot on mindset, your values, and your growth. It teaches you leadership skills, marketing skills, and so much more. I’m really impressed with the training I’m taking and I’ve learned a lot already. I’ll be sharing more about this as we go through the Daniel Plan, at least where things parallel each other. For now, I just wanted to let you know that I will be alternating days for a little while. That doesn’t mean you can’t jump ahead or keep going everyday. All that means is my notes won’t be posted here every single day, so you can always come here once or twice a week and catch-up. BUT with all that being said, I’m here for you if you need someone to do The Daniel Plan with you. All you need to do is use the “Holler At Us” form and let me know you are doing the study. I’ll reach out to you and we can work on the best ways to do the study together, to support each other. I recently created two Discord Channels that I talk more about below, so these will probably be our primary place for community “events” and discussions. Of course, we’ll grow as we learn new things so we may find better ways along this journey. Regardless of the tool we use to communicate, we need to support each other, so don’t be afraid to reach out to me if you are doing the study along with me. It is better with community. YOU are my community.

WHO

Day 9 really speaks about the prophet Daniel and his devotion to God. It focuses on introducing you to the concept that YOU can be “Daniel Strong”, too.


WHAT

The “WHAT” in Day 9 is about exercise being your best medicine for healing (along with food). It focuses on stories of success and stories about strong people like Daniel from the Bible.


WHEN

The Daniel Plan

The “WHEN” for today’s reading starts when you make the decision to focus on your physical health and healing. When you are ready to start adding physical activity to your routine – that is “WHEN” this story really kicks off for you.


WHERE

The “WHERE” for Day 9’s reading is your body again. Your body is going to reap the benefits of exercising. Your mind and spirit will also be affected positively, so your mind can be a “WHERE” and so can your spirit. That is where these changes are going to benefit you the most.

The "WHY" for Day 9 of "The Daniel Plan" study is


HOW

The “HOW” is just like Day 8 – it starts with you making a choice. YOU have to make the choice to start working on healing. Without you taking that first step, making a commitment and being diligent in your efforts to succeed, you won’t see the “HOW” part of this. God is going to give you the power, but YOU first have to get off the couch, get out of bed, get off the phone or computer, get out of your office chair, etc. and so on and GET MOVING. Continue coming back here to our Bible Study and make sure to reach out to us on our “Holler At Us” page to let us know you are doing the study with us and we can make the “HOW” to be through accountability with each other, through community and love. With those things and GOD – you’ve got this!

The Daniel Plan

STUDY NOTES

In reading the “The Fitness Essential” section of Chapter 2 in the main book “The Daniel Plan” and here are my study notes:

  1. Warren says that exercise (like food) is better than medicine.

  2. What prevents most people from exercising?

  • Most people find it hard to stick with the habit of exercising.

    • It is a dreaded activity.

    • The time commitment is hard for a lot of people.

    • It isn’t fun for most people.

    • It is painful (especially for people already experiencing chronic pain).

  1. Sean Foy is introduced to us in this section, he “will show you how to maximize and enjoy your fitness experience so you can become what we call Daniel Strong.”, says Warren.

  2. Daniel, the biblical-times prophet, is noted by Warren to be strong in body, mind, heart, and spirit.   Warren states, “…he found his power, purpose, and strength in devotion to God.”

  3. You need to be like Daniel – with a singular focus: “To Honor God In All You Do”.

  4. Warren talks more about Daniel and what it means to be “Daniel Strong”, but you’ll need to read the book to really understand all that is being said. Make sure to get your study materials, if you haven’t already.

  5. A great example of devotion to God can be found in the story of Eric Liddell. Read about him in the Fitness Essential section of Chapter 2.

  6. Adding a personal note that correlates well here from the other training I’m doing: we need to learn to emulate those that have gone before us and succeeded in the things we want to accomplish. We need to learn from those that have gone before us and failed, by finding out what went wrong and learning from that, improving upon it, and more importantly turning to God in all things. Fitness is the same – we know if we don’t do it we get unhealthy, sicker, feeling worse and worse. We know this because others before us in our predicament have shown us the dreadful life before us if we keep ignoring our health and exercise. We know that people who exercise see more energy and feel better. What we need to do is figure out how to implement even the smallest amount of physical fitness into our days. That’s what we are going to do here, together.

  7. Diligence is required: physical, intellectual, relational/social, spiritual, emotional, financial, and purposeful.

  8. Discover what moves you, join our study of “The Daniel Plan” and learn strategies to help you with increasing your fitness levels and bettering your health.


YOUR FIRST SMART GOAL ASSIGNMENT

Let’s talk about SMART Goals again. Have you written yours down yet? If not, nows a great time to do so. Revisit the section on SMART Goals (page 28 of your journal is a good place to go) if you need clarification on what each letter means in the “SMART” acronym. Remember, it is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Use your journal to record your first set of goals, on page 28 there is space to write them down. Choose one or two areas to focus on and write your goals for only those two areas. If you choose to do more, just make sure you are setting goals that you can achieve along with the other ones. Baby steps are still steps in the right direction, so don’t be afraid to start small and work your way up to bigger things as you go. Want to know our SMART goals? Are you ready to really dig in? Today is the first day we start writing in our journal using the format we are going to be doing for the next 40+ days. Read pages 29 – 32 of your journal and answer the questions, do the activities, etc.

  • This section focuses on Faith. Warren tells us, “Your relationship with Him [Jesus] enables you to pack meaning and purpose into each and every moment.” 

  • Remember that everything is interconnected – your mind, body, emotions, spirituality, etc.  Warren warns, “A problem in one area will affect all the others.”

Our Answer:

I don’t mind sharing my answers to today’s questions in the journal, but I also don’t want to give away everything the journal says you should do, I do this because I respect the work the Daniel Plan team put into their content, so you’ll have to get the journal and use the “Holler At Us” form to let me know you are participating in the study with us and then I’ll get you started on our Discord Channel where we can interact and support each other through this program. There, you’ll be able to see our journal answers and share yours, too. BUT, we won’t add you to our private Discord Channel, KF “Daniel Strong” Together, until we confirm you have your study materials in hand.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

I pray to you in the precious name of God’s lamb, Jesus Christ, Yeshua, my salvation lies within his blood and sacrifice. As I dive deeper into the Daniel Plan, it is about to start getting real. I need to buy healthier foods or figure out ways to grow my own, I need to find ways to squeeze more time into my already jam packed day for exercise and community. Thinking about these things can be stressful, Lord, because money is already tight with the inflation going on and health foods are so expensive. The time and effort it takes to grow food – as well as the needed space and equipment – and the time it takes to exercise and spend more time socializing and relationship building – is going to mean sacrificing something else in my life, what will that be? God, guide me through this process of figuring out where to make changes to my budget and my priorities, where I spend my focus and my time. Help me make changes that are going to be beneficial to my future and to the future you want me to have. Help me escape the bonds that bind me financially, with my freedom, and with how my time is spent. Lord, I rely on you wholly to push away the anxiety and stress that making changes like this may otherwise bring into my life. I know with you all things are possible and I don’t want to let you down. I want to make you my center and I want the life you have planned for me. I just need your help getting on the right path, with the right habits, and the right focus, I need God-power and to not rely on my own willpower. I need you, Father. Please be with me every step of the way and catch me before I misstep and if I misstep, please gently guide me back to the right path. The path to healing is most important to me. Healing in all ways – physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, financially, and with my freedom or lack thereof. Holy God, I call on you and your Holy Son and Holy Spirit and I grant you access to my life, to my heart, to my body and mind.

WHAT IS DISCORD? YOU TALKED A LOT ABOUT IT IN THIS POST, BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT.

ANSWER:

Discord is an online "hang-out", where you can join like-minded groups of people, create your own unique channels, and have invite-only spaces that you control access to. You don't get "cancelled" and you can boot out the people that don't behave to your liking in the groups (because they are yours). It is a place where you can chat, do voice, video, and messaging to have real conversations and build strong online communities.

We have personally joined other creators' Discord Channels and like the way it is setup, so we decided it is a great place for study group to interact. So, come on over to our Discord and interact with us there. Here is the link.

IT IS TAKING A WHILE TO GET STARTED TAKING ACTION IN THIS PROGRAM - WE ARE JUST READING. WHEN DO WE START WORKING OUT AND START DOING THE IMPORTANT PORTIONS OF THIS PROGRAM?

ANSWER:

The Daniel Plan starts us off by getting us in the right mindset. The introduction information is important, but yes, we agree that it is time to start the workouts and important portions of the program. That is why we created the Discord Channels and TODAY is the first real day for journal entry - and that is a huge step. Part of the issue is just me - I've been sick and that slowed me down a lot, so I apologize. As always, do this at your own pace - feel free to jump ahead. Just come back here and read our notes and make sure to join our Discord Channels so we can really start supporting each other through this journey.

QUESTION:

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO START MAKING VIDEOS AND WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO BE POSTED?

ANSWER:

We posted a few on TikTok, but because I haven't been feeling the best (fibromyalgia and extreme stress due to some family emergency situations) I got behind and wanted to focus on the notes and getting to the actionable part of the program. I'll be adding content on the Discord Channel in the near future. Now that things have started to settle down with the family emergency situations I've been dealing with (or at least stabilizing some), I plan to get started back up with making and posting videos for social media and get back to the program on a regular basis. I'll continue to use this website, our Discord Channel, and TikTok for the bulk of the content - but I may add Facebook, Instagram, and/or Pinterest to the mix soon, too. I'll make sure to keep you updated on this though as I start developing new habits, getting better at social media content creation, and can find "my groove" again. Thanks for being patient with me!


BIBLE STUDY TIPS

We suggest getting either the two-book set with the Journal and The Daniel Plan in a physical copy that you can use to take notes in etc. At minimum, you can do what we did at first and buy the Journal in physical form and The Daniel Plan book in the digital form (on platforms like Amazon's Kindle Unlimited or Audible).

What Is Koutz Farm?

About Us

Koutz Farm is our beloved little 7-acre homestead in Texas. It encompasses our family, our animals, our home, and the land. We love learning to homestead - everything from growing our own food, bee-keeping, raising livestock, to enjoying (and sometimes rescuing) wildlife, finding new ways to preserve and prepare our food, and doing fun things like making soap, jewelry, and other DIY, arts, & crafts projects.


There is a lot going on at Koutz Farm between working our day-jobs, doing side-jobs, running the farm, taking care of a household, volunteering, working on our future goals, spending time with our loved-ones, dealing with health issues, and most importantly getting dog-cuddles. We know there is always a good story to share, a lesson to be learned, a craft project to create, a cute animal face to make you smile, and so much more to share.


The website gives us a platform of our own to share a little part of our life’s journey with you and to talk about our testimony, share the love of Jesus with you, and whether you reject that information or not – to accept our differences and choose to love each other anyway.

You Are Like A Butterfly.

Think about the butterfly. It is beautiful and at its most majestic after it goes through its hardest point in life - the point to which it transforms into the beautiful creature you see flitting about from flower to flower, enjoying its best life. It wasn't always so, though. It starts out as a caterpillar - a creepy crawly little thing that has to fight for its life daily because so many things want to eat it up. Then, when it thinks life can't get any worse, it has to go through a transformation phase - where its body literally turns into a pile of goo in a cocoon. After it completely breaks down, it reemerges as the beautiful butterfly.

You are like a butterfly. Going through a hard time, the world feels like it is literally eating you up sometimes and the fight for your life never stops. Then you hit hard times, maybe even rock bottom - where you want to cocoon yourself up inside your house, under a blanket, hidden away from the world. You break down. You turn into goo. When it seems like there is no point, when you feel like giving up, I want you to think of the butterfly and remember that you are going through transformation when you are at this low point in life. This is not the time to give up. This is the time to dig in, lean in to other people that are willing to listen and help. I challenge you to take it a step further and turn to Jesus for help. The Lord is with you always and is just waiting for you to cry out His name and ask for His help. Hang in there, no matter what because storms don't last forever and you won't always feel like a pile of goo. You are going to reemerge as your best self, a majestic version of YOU. Just hang on. WHO

Day 9 really speaks about the prophet Daniel and his devotion to God. It focuses on introducing you to the concept that YOU can be “Daniel Strong”, too.


WHAT

The “WHAT” in Day 9 is about exercise being your best medicine for healing (along with food). It focuses on stories of success and stories about strong people like Daniel from the Bible.


WHEN

The Daniel Plan

The “WHEN” for today’s reading starts when you make the decision to focus on your physical health and healing. When you are ready to start adding physical activity to your routine – that is “WHEN” this story really kicks off for you.


WHERE

The “WHERE” for Day 9’s reading is your body again. Your body is going to reap the benefits of exercising. Your mind and spirit will also be affected positively, so your mind can be a “WHERE” and so can your spirit. That is where these changes are going to benefit you the most.

The "WHY" for Day 9 of "The Daniel Plan" study is


HOW

The “HOW” is just like Day 8 – it starts with you making a choice. YOU have to make the choice to start working on healing. Without you taking that first step, making a commitment and being diligent in your efforts to succeed, you won’t see the “HOW” part of this. God is going to give you the power, but YOU first have to get off the couch, get out of bed, get off the phone or computer, get out of your office chair, etc. and so on and GET MOVING. Continue coming back here to our Bible Study and make sure to reach out to us on our “Holler At Us” page to let us know you are doing the study with us and we can make the “HOW” to be through accountability with each other, through community and love. With those things and GOD – you’ve got this!

The Daniel Plan

STUDY NOTES

In reading the “The Fitness Essential” section of Chapter 2 in the main book “The Daniel Plan” and here are my study notes:

  1. Warren says that exercise (like food) is better than medicine.

  2. What prevents most people from exercising?

  • Most people find it hard to stick with the habit of exercising.

    • It is a dreaded activity.

    • The time commitment is hard for a lot of people.

    • It isn’t fun for most people.

    • It is painful (especially for people already experiencing chronic pain).

  1. Sean Foy is introduced to us in this section, he “will show you how to maximize and enjoy your fitness experience so you can become what we call Daniel Strong.”, says Warren.

  2. Daniel, the biblical-times prophet, is noted by Warren to be strong in body, mind, heart, and spirit.   Warren states, “…he found his power, purpose, and strength in devotion to God.”

  3. You need to be like Daniel – with a singular focus: “To Honor God In All You Do”.

  4. Warren talks more about Daniel and what it means to be “Daniel Strong”, but you’ll need to read the book to really understand all that is being said. Make sure to get your study materials, if you haven’t already.

  5. A great example of devotion to God can be found in the story of Eric Liddell. Read about him in the Fitness Essential section of Chapter 2.

  6. Adding a personal note that correlates well here from the other training I’m doing: we need to learn to emulate those that have gone before us and succeeded in the things we want to accomplish. We need to learn from those that have gone before us and failed, by finding out what went wrong and learning from that, improving upon it, and more importantly turning to God in all things. Fitness is the same – we know if we don’t do it we get unhealthy, sicker, feeling worse and worse. We know this because others before us in our predicament have shown us the dreadful life before us if we keep ignoring our health and exercise. We know that people who exercise see more energy and feel better. What we need to do is figure out how to implement even the smallest amount of physical fitness into our days. That’s what we are going to do here, together.

  7. Diligence is required: physical, intellectual, relational/social, spiritual, emotional, financial, and purposeful.

  8. Discover what moves you, join our study of “The Daniel Plan” and learn strategies to help you with increasing your fitness levels and bettering your health.


YOUR FIRST SMART GOAL ASSIGNMENT

Let’s talk about SMART Goals again. Have you written yours down yet? If not, nows a great time to do so. Revisit the section on SMART Goals (page 28 of your journal is a good place to go) if you need clarification on what each letter means in the “SMART” acronym. Remember, it is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Use your journal to record your first set of goals, on page 28 there is space to write them down. Choose one or two areas to focus on and write your goals for only those two areas. If you choose to do more, just make sure you are setting goals that you can achieve along with the other ones. Baby steps are still steps in the right direction, so don’t be afraid to start small and work your way up to bigger things as you go. Want to know our SMART goals? Are you ready to really dig in? Today is the first day we start writing in our journal using the format we are going to be doing for the next 40+ days. Read pages 29 – 32 of your journal and answer the questions, do the activities, etc.

  • This section focuses on Faith. Warren tells us, “Your relationship with Him [Jesus] enables you to pack meaning and purpose into each and every moment.” 

  • Remember that everything is interconnected – your mind, body, emotions, spirituality, etc.  Warren warns, “A problem in one area will affect all the others.”

Our Answer:

I don’t mind sharing my answers to today’s questions in the journal, but I also don’t want to give away everything the journal says you should do, I do this because I respect the work the Daniel Plan team put into their content, so you’ll have to get the journal and use the “Holler At Us” form to let me know you are participating in the study with us and then I’ll get you started on our Discord Channel where we can interact and support each other through this program. There, you’ll be able to see our journal answers and share yours, too. BUT, we won’t add you to our private Discord Channel, KF “Daniel Strong” Together, until we confirm you have your study materials in hand.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

I pray to you in the precious name of God’s lamb, Jesus Christ, Yeshua, my salvation lies within his blood and sacrifice. As I dive deeper into the Daniel Plan, it is about to start getting real. I need to buy healthier foods or figure out ways to grow my own, I need to find ways to squeeze more time into my already jam packed day for exercise and community. Thinking about these things can be stressful, Lord, because money is already tight with the inflation going on and health foods are so expensive. The time and effort it takes to grow food – as well as the needed space and equipment – and the time it takes to exercise and spend more time socializing and relationship building – is going to mean sacrificing something else in my life, what will that be? God, guide me through this process of figuring out where to make changes to my budget and my priorities, where I spend my focus and my time. Help me make changes that are going to be beneficial to my future and to the future you want me to have. Help me escape the bonds that bind me financially, with my freedom, and with how my time is spent. Lord, I rely on you wholly to push away the anxiety and stress that making changes like this may otherwise bring into my life. I know with you all things are possible and I don’t want to let you down. I want to make you my center and I want the life you have planned for me. I just need your help getting on the right path, with the right habits, and the right focus, I need God-power and to not rely on my own willpower. I need you, Father. Please be with me every step of the way and catch me before I misstep and if I misstep, please gently guide me back to the right path. The path to healing is most important to me. Healing in all ways – physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, financially, and with my freedom or lack thereof. Holy God, I call on you and your Holy Son and Holy Spirit and I grant you access to my life, to my heart, to my body and mind.

WHAT IS DISCORD? YOU TALKED A LOT ABOUT IT IN THIS POST, BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT.

ANSWER:

Discord is an online "hang-out", where you can join like-minded groups of people, create your own unique channels, and have invite-only spaces that you control access to. You don't get "cancelled" and you can boot out the people that don't behave to your liking in the groups (because they are yours). It is a place where you can chat, do voice, video, and messaging to have real conversations and build strong online communities.

We have personally joined other creators' Discord Channels and like the way it is setup, so we decided it is a great place for study group to interact. So, come on over to our Discord and interact with us there. Here is the link.

QUESTION:

IT IS TAKING A WHILE TO GET STARTED TAKING ACTION IN THIS PROGRAM - WE ARE JUST READING. WHEN DO WE START WORKING OUT AND START DOING THE IMPORTANT PORTIONS OF THIS PROGRAM?

ANSWER:

The Daniel Plan starts us off by getting us in the right mindset. The introduction information is important, but yes, we agree that it is time to start the workouts and important portions of the program. That is why we created the Discord Channels and TODAY is the first real day for journal entry - and that is a huge step. Part of the issue is just me - I've been sick and that slowed me down a lot, so I apologize. As always, do this at your own pace - feel free to jump ahead. Just come back here and read our notes and make sure to join our Discord Channels so we can really start supporting each other through this journey.

QUESTION:

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO START MAKING VIDEOS AND WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO BE POSTED?

ANSWER:

We posted a few on TikTok, but because I haven't been feeling the best (fibromyalgia and extreme stress due to some family emergency situations) I got behind and wanted to focus on the notes and getting to the actionable part of the program. I'll be adding content on the Discord Channel in the near future. Now that things have started to settle down with the family emergency situations I've been dealing with (or at least stabilizing some), I plan to get started back up with making and posting videos for social media and get back to the program on a regular basis. I'll continue to use this website, our Discord Channel, and TikTok for the bulk of the content - but I may add Facebook, Instagram, and/or Pinterest to the mix soon, too. I'll make sure to keep you updated on this though as I start developing new habits, getting better at social media content creation, and can find "my groove" again. Thanks for being patient with me!


BIBLE STUDY TIPS

We suggest getting either the two-book set with the Journal and The Daniel Plan in a physical copy that you can use to take notes in etc. At minimum, you can do what we did at first and buy the Journal in physical form and The Daniel Plan book in the digital form (on platforms like Amazon's Kindle Unlimited or Audible).

Meet The Koutz Farm Pack

Meet the man of the house, Mr. David Koutz. David loves fishing and riding his motorcycle with his friends. He is a magician - I mean mechanic - and the best mechanic that ever existed if you ask us! If you have a problem, yo he'll solve it; that is why his free time is always booked up with side gigs and motorcycle rallies. Koutz Farm couldn't be Koutz Farm without him and his amazing automotive and building skills. David says he is not a carpenter, but we've put that to the test and he definitely has the skills. He keeps things working around the farm and is truly our superhero!

Meet our up-and-comers: our beautiful daughter, Taylor, and her boyfriend Dom (aka Kai). Taylor officially graduated college and has already started a job as a History Teacher. Dom graduated college a few months before Taylor did, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is learning the skills of the trade with a local contractor. We know that he'll do great things in his life. These two are pretty much inseparable and they love doing things together and hanging out with their friends. They love everything from going on adventures, playing video games, and doing craft projects together. Oh to be young again.

Meet the weird and crazy one of the bunch - Crystal Koutz (aka CJ). Crystal is the primary Content Creator, Webmaster, Copywriter, Social Media Manager, and everything in between from CEO to the janitor. Crystal loves animals (if you can't tell) and spends much of her free time with them. She also loves working on her website projects (seriously fun to her) and constantly learning new things.
