"When you combine the actions of trusting in God, dreaming big, and working hard - anything is possible."

CJK

"Yes Dear."

DRK

TRUST GOD. DREAM BIG. WORK HARD.

It's A Love Story

Love keeps us going every day. Our love of God and His love of us is our saving grace. Our love of animals, nature, and country living is what drives us to work hard to keep what we have been blessed with. Our love of each other is what gets us through hard times and what brings us joy in the good times. Love is what keeps us pushing to get up when we don’t feel like it, when health issues take their toll, and we struggle, or we are just too exhausted to go on. Without love, we wouldn’t have a reason to do anything and the light at the end of our tunnel would have burned out long ago. It is hope that makes us take that one extra step, but it is love that gives us the strength to take that step. It is our love that makes up the true story of the Koutz Farm Family and it is God’s love, provision, grace, mercy, and blessings that will keep us going each day.

The Story Of Cain & Abel

WHO

This bible study includes God, Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Seth, Cain’s wife, Enoch, Irad, Mehujael, Methushael, Lamech, Adah, Zillah, Jabal, Jubal, Tubal-Cain, Naamah, and Enosh.

WHAT

  1. Adam and Eve had three sons: Cain, Abel, and Seth.

  2. Cain was the firstborn and Abel was the second born. Seth was born last – after Abel had been murdered.

  3. Abel kept flocks – a shepherd.

  4. Cain worked the soil – a farmer.

  5. Cain was jealous of his brother, Abel, because the Lord had taken favor of Abel’s offering over Cain’s offering.

  6. God warns Cain that sin is at his door and that he should rule over it.

  7. Cain takes Abel to a field and murders him. He tried to hide the murder from God and he lied about this sin.

  8. Cain is cursed to be a restless wanderer of the earth.

  9. Cain leaves and later marries and has a son, Enoch.

  10. Cain was the 4-times-great grandfather to Lamech.

  11. Lamech killed a man for wounding him.

  12. Eve gave birth to Seth (Cain and Abel’s younger brother).

  13. Seth has a son named Enosh.

  14. The men call on the name of the Lord.

WHEN

After Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden forever but before the great floods of Noah’s time.

WHERE

East of Eden; the Land of Nod; and the city of Enoch.

WHY

Cain's jealousy got the better of him and he allowed sin to control him, to the point of murder. God tells us not to be envious of others. We are to love each other, help each other, be happy for each others' successes and be sad for each other during times of hardship. We are meant to be united as a family of God's precious children. The 10 Commandments tell us directly not to kill each other. Cain's sin and his guilt of his sin caused him to hide the body - but you can't hide anything from God. God was angry with Cain over the murder of his brother Abel, but because God loves all his creations and Cain called out to God to ask for His mercy, we see God's grace come through - even though Cain didn't deserve it - God's action of marking Cain so no one was allowed to retaliate and kill him in return for his terrible deed towards his brother was an act of pure love; however, God cannot tolerate or be in the presence of sin and banished Cain.

HOW

Cain killed Abel with a stone. God punished Cain by exiling him and turning Cain’s crops into barren fields. Cain was cursed to be a restless wanderer, a fugitive, a vagabond for the rest of his days because of his sin. God showed mercy upon Cain by marking Cain so that others wouldn’t kill him.

Only because of God’s mercy, Cain is able to have a family. Only because of God’s grace, Adam and Eve are able to have a 3rd son in their older age – Seth.

STUDY NOTES

“Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” ~ Genesis 4:6 and 4:7

After Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden, they had 2 sons – Cain and Abel.  Cain was a farmer – he worked the soil.  Abel was a shepherd – he tended sheep.  This was in a time period when offerings were made to God in order to win His favor and to please Him.  So, in this section of Genesis, Cain and Abel bring God an offering – each from their area of speciality.  Cain brought fruit and Abel brought fat and meat from his flocks.  This is when the story takes a turn for the worse – Satan sees an opening to insert his evil –SIN.

So God really liked Abel’s offering of meat and fat from the sheep.  God showed a lot of respect to Abel and was very pleased with him.  On the other hand, God didn’t really think much of Cain’s offering so Cain felt disrespected and became angry and jealous.

God recognizes the jealousy and anger in Cain and He warns Cain about the fact that sin is at his door and that Cain should rule over it.  But Cain didn’t heed God’s warning and just as God said, SIN won when Cain decided to trick his brother into hanging out with him in the field.  Cain used that opportunity to kill his brother and then tried to hide the murder from God.

“What have you done?  The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.” ~ Genesis 4:10

Now, we should all know (but if you don’t – you should learn it right now, right here) that you can hide anything from God.  God is all-knowing and all-seeing.  He knew what happened to Abel and he knew Cain was lying.  God punished Cain by banishing him from the land where his family lived.  God cursed Cain so that he would never grow successful crops again.

Cain was to be a vagabond and a fugitive for the rest of his days.  Cain cried out to the Lord in fear – fear that he too would be murdered by someone else during his wanderings of the earth.  The Lord answered with mercy and marked Cain so that no one would ever kill him.

Cain was able to have a family during his vagabond days.  A strong family-line that passed down generation after generation.  Cain was the 4-times-great grandfather of Lamech.  Lamech also murdered in retaliation toward someone because that person wounded him.

“The men began to call on the name of the Lord.” ~ Genesis 4:26

While all this was going on, Adam and Eve were still a happening couple.  They even had a 3rd son named Seth – after Abel was murdered.  Seth had a son named Enosh and they loved and worshipped the Lord.

A Brother's Jealousy

PRAYER

Lord My God,

My flesh has sinned against you, oh Lord. I feel ashamed, humiliated, and have lost confidence in myself because of my sin. I feel afraid as guilt and grief has consumed me over my transgressions. I am facing a broken life because I have messed up – self-inflicted this pain and suffering. Lord I am not perfect and you know this. My flesh is sinful but my heart and soul are yours. I want to repent of my sins – I want to confess them to you here and now, oh Holy One. I need your mercy, grace and forgiveness. I need to be free of these self-inflicted wounds and suffering. Lord, I confess my sins to you. I ask that you help me turn away from my past life and help me to live with a clean conscience because I know that if I accept Jesus as my Savior, His sacrifice on the cross has paid for and wiped away the sin of my flesh. In my submission and love for Jesus, I become a circumsized soul – separated from this sinful body. Although I will never be 100% sin-free because my body is but flesh – Lord, I pray that you help me avoid it and turn away from it as much as possible, today forward. God, please help me find peace and please do not let these sins haunt me. Please keep them from dwelling in my life – wipe them clean, drench me in the blood of Jesus and forgive me Lord, my God. I have confessed this moment, I have turned to you for grace and mercy and I call upon your Son to be my saving grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, in your Holy name,

Amen

ACTION

  • DON’T DWELL ON WHAT GOD HAS FORGIVEN AND WHAT JESUS HAS ALREADY PAID FOR ON THE CROSS.

  • God uses your painful moments to clearly speak to you about matters He deems of ultimate importance. Unfortunately, but understandably, we usually concentrate on the pain instead of on God. If you are in a painful place in your life, make the choice to permit God to work on you during this time of suffering. If you are in a good place right now, take this time to thank God for helping you through the dark places of your life. Your action is to work on yourself – the most painful places deep down inside – to open your heart and let God in so that He can do His work for you. Let God in right now, so He can help you fight the battles within – so He can expel the dark shadows and kick Satan’s rear-end right out of your life.

  • Don’t know how? Find a place where you can be alone – a closet is a great place – drop to your knees and lift up your arms. Close your eyes and face your open palms toward the heavens. Pray.  Pray like you have never prayed before. Confess to God. Talk to God. Tell Him whatever it is you need to tell Him. Ask Him for His mercy and grace. If you don’t have the words to say – just close your eyes and be at peace. Sit in the quiet and let God work on you. Clear your mind and open your heart. Just so you know, crying is okay, too. God knows what your tears need to say. Every tear is heard by Him and even more so when you are calling upon Him.

QUESTION & ANSWERS

When we go through the Word of God, we often have questions and sometimes even thoughts that might not make us feel good as Christians. I know that our family often runs into this and we do our best to talk through them and find answers to help us better understand. This section contains some of the questions we often ask ourselves. You are welcome to comment with your thoughts or with additional questions too. We are not perfect by any means and we definitely are not Bible scholars, theologists, pastors or any profession even close. We are just a family trying to learn the Word of God by reading it and praying about it.

QUESTION:

WHY WAS LAMECH BRAGGING ABOUT KILLING SOMEONE?

ANSWER:

Lamech knows that God protected Cain after Cain killed his brother Abel. God said that he would take vengeance upon anyone that killed Cain, seven-fold. Lamech thinks that God will protect him from murder even more - seventy-sevenfold - because he is of Cain's lineage.

QUESTION:

DO YOU FACE SELF-INFLICTED WOUNDS & SUFFERING? ARE YOU THE VICTIM OF A BROKEN WORLD FILLED WITH SIN? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO RECEIVE GOD'S MERCY & FORGIVENESS?

ANSWER:

To receive grace, mercy and redemption from God, you must repent of your sins. You must identify your sin to God in prayer. Confess your guilt, fear, grief, anger, resentment, crimes, etc. to Him and then you MUST be willing to turn away from your past sins - avoiding them at all cost.

QUESTION:

WHERE DID ALL THE PEOPLE COME FROM? THE PEOPLE THAT CAIN WAS WORRIED ABOUT COMING AFTER HIM? CAIN WAS AFRAID PEOPLE WOULD COME AFTER HIM AND KILL HIM, BUT GENESIS ONLY INTRODUCES US TO ADAM, EVE, CAIN, & ABEL AT THIS TIME IN THE STORY. SO WHERE DID THE OTHER PEOPLE COME FROM?

ANSWER:

Answer coming soon. We are doing some research on this question. Do you have an answer for us? Please fill out the "Holler At Us Form" and let us know your thoughts on this.

What Is Koutz Farm?

About Us

Koutz Farm is our beloved little 7-acre homestead in Texas. It encompasses our family, our animals, our home, and the land. We love learning to homestead - everything from growing our own food, bee-keeping, raising livestock, to enjoying (and sometimes rescuing) wildlife, finding new ways to preserve and prepare our food, and doing fun things like making soap, jewelry, and other DIY, arts, & crafts projects.

There is a lot going on at Koutz Farm between working our day-jobs, doing side-jobs, running the farm, taking care of a household, volunteering, working on our future goals, spending time with our loved-ones, dealing with health issues, and most importantly getting dog-cuddles. We know there is always a good story to share, a lesson to be learned, a craft project to create, a cute animal face to make you smile, and so much more to share.

The website gives us a platform of our own to share a little part of our life’s journey with you and to talk about our testimony, share the love of Jesus with you, and whether you reject that information or not – to accept our differences and choose to love each other anyway.

Your support will help our farm to get the many things it needs to become a successful homestead. Your support means the world to us and may your blessings from the Lord be abundant for your kindness.

Don't Give Up. Please.

You Are Like A Butterfly.

Think about the butterfly. It is beautiful and at its most majestic after it goes through its hardest point in life - the point to which it transforms into the beautiful creature you see flitting about from flower to flower, enjoying its best life. It wasn't always so, though. It starts out as a caterpillar - a creepy crawly little thing that has to fight for its life daily because so many things want to eat it up. Then, when it thinks life can't get any worse, it has to go through a transformation phase - where its body literally turns into a pile of goo in a cocoon. After it completely breaks down, it reemerges as the beautiful butterfly.

You are like a butterfly. Going through a hard time, the world feels like it is literally eating you up sometimes and the fight for your life never stops. Then you hit hard times, maybe even rock bottom - where you want to cocoon yourself up inside your house, under a blanket, hidden away from the world. You break down. You turn into goo. When it seems like there is no point, when you feel like giving up, I want you to think of the butterfly and remember that you are going through transformation when you are at this low point in life. This is not the time to give up. This is the time to dig in, lean in to other people that are willing to listen and help. I challenge you to take it a step further and turn to Jesus for help. The Lord is with you always and is just waiting for you to cry out His name and ask for His help. Hang in there, no matter what because storms don't last forever and you won't always feel like a pile of goo. You are going to reemerge as your best self, a majestic version of YOU. Just hang on.

Koutz Farm Projects & Initiatives

Meet The Koutz Farm Pack

Meet the man of the house, Mr. David Koutz. David loves fishing and riding his motorcycle with his friends. He is a magician - I mean mechanic - and the best mechanic that ever existed if you ask us! If you have a problem, yo he'll solve it; that is why his free time is always booked up with side gigs and motorcycle rallies. Koutz Farm couldn't be Koutz Farm without him and his amazing automotive and building skills. David says he is not a carpenter, but we've put that to the test and he definitely has the skills. He keeps things working around the farm and is truly our superhero!

Meet our up-and-comers: our beautiful daughter, Taylor, and her boyfriend Dom (aka Kai). Taylor officially graduated college and has already started a job as a History Teacher. Dom graduated college a few months before Taylor did, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is learning the skills of the trade with a local contractor. We know that he'll do great things in his life. These two are pretty much inseparable and they love doing things together and hanging out with their friends. They love everything from going on adventures, playing video games, and doing craft projects together. Oh to be young again.

Meet the weird and crazy one of the bunch - Crystal Koutz (aka CJ). Crystal is the primary Content Creator, Webmaster, Copywriter, Social Media Manager, and everything in between from CEO to the janitor. Crystal loves animals (if you can't tell) and spends much of her free time with them. She also loves working on her website projects (seriously fun to her) and constantly learning new things. She is what we call a Fibro Warrior because it takes daily strength to battle Fibromyalgia and other health issues. She says God is her rock it is only because of Him that she gets through each day.
